Port Blair Local Information :

Capital of the lovely Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Port Blair represents the beauty the islands are known for. Covered with lush greens and dotted with shimmering beaches, the city is a paradise in itself. The only beach in Port Blair is the Corbyn’s Cove which is known for its virgin sands and coconut palms. It is also a haven for adventure lovers as it offers innumerable glass-bottomed boat cruises, scuba diving and snorkeling options. A historical site here is the Cellular Jail, popularly known as Kaala Pani. It is noted for its connection with our country’s struggle for freedom. The Fisheries Museum here is another major tourist attraction with more than 300 marine species being preserved here. The Chidiya Tapu here is an attraction for the avifaunal wealth it possesses. A good place to enjoy the marine wealth of the region is the Havelock Island. A little away from Port Blair, the waters around the island abound in dolphins, turtles and large fishes. It also a good spot for activities like sunbathing, snorkeling, surf-riding and swimming. The spot also gives some exceptionally beautiful sunset and sunrise views. Camping facility is also available near Radhanagar beach.

By Air

Port Blair is air linked with Madras, Delhi, Bhubaneswar, and Kolkata.

By Sea

Regular passenger ship services are available to Port Blair from Chennai, Kolkata and Vishakhapatnam and back. There are three to four sailings every month from Kolkata and Chennai to Port Blair and vice-versa. There is one sailing from Vishakhapatnam in a month. The voyage takes about 50 to 60 hours and the ship normally berths at Port Blair for about two to four days.
