Jodhpur Local Information :

Established in the fifteenth century by the Rajputs, Jodhpur soon rose to be one of the wealthiest cities in the region. Strategically located on the Delhi-Gujarat trade root, it increased its economic health. It was under the Rajputs, that the city saw the establishment of some of the mightiest forts in the country. The Mehrangarh Fort still towers majestically over the city. The ramparts of the fort give a panoramic view of the entire city. Another grand structure from the royalty is the Umaid Bhawan Palace. It is the royal residence of the current maharaja while a part of it has been converted into a heritage hotel. The fort even houses a grand museum that has doe well to preserve a lot of artifacts from the house of the royals. The Jaswant Thada is another major tourist attraction in Jodhpur. It is a memorial built for Maharaj Jaswant Singh. The Mandore Gardens should be visited for the fascinating gardens, cenotaphs, temples, ruins and sculptures it has. Jodhpur has a lot more charms than you would expect.
